*sigh* Yeah, I actually felt sorry for Tor during that scene. The poor man sounded like his mouth was still filled with the meatballs and glogg he’d had before shooting (Mmmm. I’m definitely cooking Swedish for dinner tonight). Still, I think even Tor escaped with more dignity than the other non-Vampira members of the cast. He just wasn’t as easy on the eyes.

Yes, silence was a real virtue in the face of Ed’s script.

Poor Tor didn’t get spared it. He had to play “L.A. cop” at the beginning with a thick-as-lingonberry jam Swedish accent.

She brought kind of a quiet dignity to the cast, particularly since she played the part completely mute. This was a smart move, as it rendered her totally immune to Ed Wood’s hilariously dumb script. The only other cast members that got away with that were Lugosi and his double, and they still didn’t manage to not look ridiculous even without lines. And I have to agree that in or out of costume, she was a beauty. RIP Miss Vampira.

The Nelson Reilly thing isnt so bad, but go back and re-read Kevin’s book where he mentions Chris Penn in the Corky Romano part. Or better yet go watch Kevin read the excerpt himself.

I agree though, Maila was indeed very beautiful and certainly the most memorable thing to me about Plan Nine. Aside from the rant about how stupid us primitive humans are.

Yknow, now that you mention it, Bill, she *is* one of the best parts of Plan 9. There are parts that are just so difficult to get through, but hers, Tor Johnson’s, and the aliens’ make Plan 9 so much fun. Ms. Nurmi will be missed.

I just heard of her passing from, ironically (or not), Elvira (”Mistress of the Dark”, not just any old Elvira). She’s one of my MySpace, er, “friends”, and she sent out a nice bulletin. I guess she’s the de facto “Queen of the Night” now! The torch has passed. *sigh*
