I realize that this comes far too late to be of use to those of you who buy your years supply of oatmeal by January 2nd. I apologize. Normally, I am right there with you, banging on the door of Dean & DeLuca or Caldor or wherever the hell you buy Oatmeal from. But this year I procrastinated. Something in the air said “Conor, this year, why not wait a few days to buy your years supply of oatmeal.”
And boy was that intuition correct. Because right now, amazon.com is offering HUGE OATMEAL SAVINGS. Right now, when you spend over $39 on McCann’s Irish Oatmeal, you get $20 in instant savings. The above tin of 28 oz of oatmeal is available in a four pack for $22.63. That means with amazon’s trademark free shipping, you can get 14 POUNDS of oatmeal for $25.
The deal runs through the end of the month. To anyone with an anniversary or birthday of a loved one coming up, you are welcome in advance.
Note: Amazon’s list of “Common mistakes to avoid” lists such errors such as “Make sure you have entered the correct promotional code at checkout” and “Make sure that you’ve added eligible items offered by Amazon.com in our Grocery store.”
I might also suggest the following:
- Avoid purchasing 14 pounds of oatmeal just because you can
- Make sure you have proper storage space. You’ve likely never had this much oatmeal in your house at one point in time (does not apply to Wilford Brimley)
- When giving 14 pounds of oatmeal as a gift, don’t just wrap the outer box. Instead, wrap each can individually as to maximize the enjoyment of the recipient, as well as to allow them to hold out the possibility that maybe just one of the wrapped objects may be something other than oatmeal

When I die, I want my coffin packed with oatmeal, much like my stomach was packed with oatmeal in real life. Cinnamon and sugar flavor, please.

With that many pounds of oatmeal on hand, I think my first instinct would be to prepare the bathtub. I hear hot oatmeal baths are all the rage lately in them San Francisco health spas.

I’m just concerned as to why oatmeal needs to be “steel cut.”

Oatmeal — now in cans!
Just imagion all the other ways they haven’t been selling oatmeal to us. I vote for “Go-gurt” syle tubes as the next evolutionary step.

Dang….if I didn’t live so close to a place where I can buy steel cut oats in bulk, and I do live very close, I would so take advantage of this outstanding bargain! Wow!

Great, now I’m having flashbacks of stocking those darn cans of oatmeal at Central Market. Thanks, Conor.

Ah! You laugh, but steel cut oatmeal is delicious. It retains the nutty flavor and chewy texture that are crushed out of its bland, gooey, “instant” relatives when they’re steamed and flattened in order to make them cook more quickly.
I’m heading to Amazon to place my order right now. This is awesome!
I just really, really like oatmeal, is all.

If you like oatmeal, this REALLY is some of the best, 100 times better than Quaker’s instant mush. I’m not sure what makes this so gosh darn hi-larious. It’s $7 a can at our local health food store. I’m trying to lower cholesterol this year and eat healthier, so thanks for the great tip. I’m heading over to buy some from amazon now.
