Both times he was gracious, thoughful and hilarious. My daughter (now in college) shares my love of Al and when he got married a while back, some fans discovered where he was registered. My daughter thought it would be a hoot to buy him something, so we bought him a set of six margarita glasses, if I recall correctly. To our astonishment, a few weeks later, a thank you note, hand-written and quite funny, arrived in the mail from Al. Class act. In a similar vein, my daughter and I went to see him about 10 years ago and after the show we hung around the tour bus because my daughter wanted to give him a duck beanie baby (because he wants a new duck, get it?). Anyway, Al was a little under the weather that night and one of his people came out to say he wasn't going to come out and say hi, so my daughter grabbed the guy and gave him the duck, and asked him to give it to Al. She later sent an email to Al's drummer, Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz, who at that time was Al's main conduit on the internet, to see if he got it. A day or so later Berm emailed back to tell my daughter that he'd gotten the duck and he loved it and said thanks. I bet a lot of fans have stories like this. He's just that kind of guy.
