Yes, HD-DVD is dead.
This is your last chance to purchase the hardware and then run out NOW - don’t wait - NOW, and get your HD-DVD copy of “You, Me and Dupree”. It was shocking to me, and to the industry group fronted by Toshiba, that a format anchored by “You, Me and Dupree” could ever fail, but it has and now we must make the best of it. Go out NOW and get your copy of “You, Me and Dupree”.
Is there a silver lining? Well, it’s a dark, dark day, there’s no point in whitewashing it, but yes, there is a silver lining:
“Daddy Day Camp” is available on the surviving Blu-Ray format.
We dodged a bullet there, friends.
But then, why are you still reading? Why aren’t you out buying your copy of “You, Me and Dupree”? Let’s move, people!

The day I buy a Blu-Ray player is the day that Kate Hudson is naked in a movie that’s released on Blu-Ray.

Yes Mike because the only good thing that ever came out on HD DVD was You, me and Dupree…..
I know what you are Mike. You bought a PS3 not only because its a gaming machine but because its a blu ray player.
You sir have been a blu ray supporter from the beginning!!!

Actually, I own an HD-DVD player myself. What got me into it? “Scary Movie 4″ in HIGH DEFINITION VIDEO AND SOUND!

Alright well I guess your still cool then Mike.
BUT
The format WAR is not over Mike.
Next is downloadable vs. Blu Ray.
Choose wisely Mike……

Well, Mike how else could you possibly enjoy the subtle nuances of Carmen Electra’s performance with just regular plain old ordinary sound and definition? The answer to that riddle is you can’t.

I don’t know about this, Mike. I’m wary of watching “You, Me and Dupree”.
From what I understand, after viewing “You, Me and Dupree” himself, Owen Wilson lost his will to live and attempted to cut his wrist.
Evidently, it’s that bad.

I’m still not convinced that Betamax won’t make a surprise comeback.

All these new-fangled gadgets. Bloo-Rey, HDVCR, and the HGTV’s being sold is screwin’ up the world.
When I was a kid, we didn’t have fancy mPod3 players. We listened on our crystal radios!
And we had to get up and WALK to the television to change channels!
We didn’t have them fancy Tivo or On-Demand things. When we wanted to watch a show over again, we had to wait for a re-run.
Waddya mean “What’s a re-run”?
We used to watch them all the time on UHF.
Waddya MEAN “What’s UHF?”!!!

I remember the good ol’ days when there were only 10 cable channels, and you literally had to move to another city or state just to get the Comedy Channel (and later the Sci-Fi channel). Wait, those days sucked!

I agree, Mike.
I own an HD-DVD player, and I find that a comparison to my regular DVD players is as lopsided as pitting American Gladiator “Titan” (the “Yeah, he’s massive, but seriously — is he gay, or what?” Gladiator) against Eddie Deezen.
HD-DVD’s biggest advantage? The 25 minutes it takes to start up and actually begin PLAYING a disc gives you plenty of time to decide if you REALLY want to sit down and watch “Blonde and Blonder,” or if you’d in fact be better off going down to the shop and countersinking wood screws into your skull.

Perhaps I can recover by putting all this HD-DVD memorabilia on eBay…

Anyone who bought a HD-DVD player must have been crazy! The prophet Michael Bay already warned us months ago that Blu-ray is the future. Who would go against the genius of Michael Bay? HD-DVD owners, you only have yourselves to blame. I hope you have all learned your lesson and will never again go against the wisdom of Monsenior Bay.

I admit, I bought an HD-DVD player. So it’s clear why Blue-Ray won.
Although in my defense, I had heard the porn industry was going HD-DVD exclusive and I thought that would be the deciding fact.
How dare the pornographers screw me over like that!

I remember back when CDs were new, and a local salesman demonstrated how it would still play after being smeared on the top (label) with peanut butter.
Has Blu-Ray passed the peanut butter test? Jam? Maple syrup? Pizza toppings?
Sorry, but discriminating consumers expect more these days.

Having flashbacks here, my family owned a Sony Betamax back in the 80’s. It was a clearly superior machine and it died.

Good. I just watched “Sarah Connor” and the last thing we need is machines thinking they’re superior!

Fine point my friend. Machines are inherently evil and they must be kept from getting uppity.

No new format will ever compare to saving my pocket money for weeks to buy a 20 minute condensed version of “Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein” on Super 8mm film….WITH SOUND!!
“Forget 16mm and it’s crazy old exciter lamp technology!!” I used to yell at the A/V geeks, “Super 8 is the way of the future!”

Blu-Ray only won because it sounds much cooler. Who wants to watch “HD” when you can invite people over to check out your “Blu-Ray.”
Note to future format pioneers: name your device something almost totally irrelevant to the format, but cool sounding, and it’s smooth sailing.

I’m still miffed over Edison encouraging capital punishment so his electrical current system would beat his rivals.
Hmmph. Stupid Edison.
