Free Riffs!

February 27th, 2008 by Mike Nelson · 132 Comments

Politics can get so heated, so passionate that every so often you have to just stop, take a deep breath and feel the calming influence of the boll weevils.

Alternatively, you can enjoy RiffTrax take on politics. We carefully and painstakingly scrape the politics off our politics and leave only the funny. Enjoy, and check out round 2 of the political ad riffs right here.

    Brilliant, but I’m easily amused.

I’d love to see a Rifftrax of one of the debates…

I notice that no candidate has to courage to address any of the boll-weevil related topics, especially the Fire-ants wanton genocide of their species! Also none of the candidates brings up anything bacon related! Although Huckabees free pen platform is nice as i never seem to have a pen when i need one. But McCain has my vote because of the size of his face, I feel it represents me better.

Oooooh, I just LOVE neat little things like this.

  • 5 Hugh on Feb 27, 2008 at 3:18 pm

The Obama one was a rollercoaster ride. First I was confused, then I was disappointed, then I had a moment of revelation, then there was groaning followed by laughter.

Quite similar to the responses of every woman I’ve ever loved, actually.

  • 6 Hugh on Feb 27, 2008 at 3:22 pm

P.S. Could we please get rid of that big booming voice at the end? It’s kind of corny and really kills the mood (read: scares the hell out of me).

  • 7 Ninjew on Feb 27, 2008 at 3:24 pm

Finally candidates with platforms I can get behind! I especially love the Iowa caucus one since that’s where I’m stuck living. “Caucusin’ in moccasins”. Bravo, sir!

  • 11 Darth Chimay on Feb 27, 2008 at 4:06 pm

I believe the presents lobby will have something to say about this. Good day, sir!

    John Saxon?

  • 16 R.A. Roth on Feb 27, 2008 at 4:49 pm

Hey, what clown edited the last clip?! There’s like 15 seconds of dead air at the end! It’s like watching that part of Pitch Black where it was really, REALLY dark and nothing happened, also know as the running time of the movie. Seriously, I kid Pitch Black. For a Vin Diesel Engine vehicle it ran pretty smoothly and provided reasonable mileage for your entertainment dollar. Thanks, I’ll be here all week! Don’t forget to tip your waitress, and a cow!

John McCain just said I’m worse than Hitler! Just for that, all my change is being donated to Mr Pibb…er…that white guy portrayed by Denzel Washington’s brother. That’s brother, not brother brother.

  • 18 Melman on Feb 27, 2008 at 5:00 pm

No Ron Paul? Or is that just plain too easy?

  • 19 Beautiful Houndstooth on Feb 27, 2008 at 5:26 pm

Now I see why I’m having such trouble deciding who to vote for. I mean now that I’m an adult I actually like for people to tell me what they’re going to get me for Christmas so I can practice my grateful face when I open a lame gift so Hillary’s camp makes a strong case. But just today I had an overly crumpled dollar bill and I was unable to purchase back of pulverized, 12 year-old pretzels in the machine so Obama has my eye too. Then you add in Romney’s free pen campaign and… golly I just don’t know where to turn!

  • 20 bob the hog on Feb 27, 2008 at 5:39 pm

    Ron Paul?
I got yer Ron Paul right here (not Ru Paul, Ron Paul).

  • 24 Dan Noutko-Kennedy on Feb 27, 2008 at 6:36 pm

Spiffing riffing, chaps! I’m afraid it’s not our rumpled and crumpled bills though that get bent over the edge of the table but after we send them to Washington all we’re left with is our aching hindquarters.

  • 25 AmandaGal on Feb 27, 2008 at 6:47 pm

The Huckster, my home town hero, had the pen campaign. Romney dropped out, like, 4 years ago.

  • 26 bob the hog on Feb 27, 2008 at 7:22 pm

Very funny, and I’m really shocked at how lame those videos were.

However, I am a tad offended that you call yourselves the team that brought us MST3k. Joel brought us MST3k, you guys starred in and contributed to it.

  • 49 Invader_Quirk on Feb 28, 2008 at 11:44 am

    Make that “highly offended”. Seriously.

  • 50 jewishcarpenter on Feb 28, 2008 at 11:54 am

  • 52 Neb on Feb 28, 2008 at 12:23 pm

You just made me laugh, Roth. No mean feat. (and I liked “Pitch Black”!)

  • 53 Bill Corbett on Feb 28, 2008 at 12:28 pm

Nah, this has to be a joke.

  • 54 Neb on Feb 28, 2008 at 12:30 pm

SRossy: my second laugh of the day, thanks!

I Quirk: Michael J. was head writer, I think that makes him part of “the team”. I don’t have a problem with the statement. It doesn’t say “the creators of” or “the sole powers” or “the omnipotent beings who….”. I see your point, but “From a portion of the team who brought you MST3k” would sound silly, don’t you think?

  • 55 Bill Corbett on Feb 28, 2008 at 12:33 pm

P.S. Invader Quirk’s mom is fat.

    There, now it’s official.

  • 56 SaucyRossy on Feb 28, 2008 at 12:35 pm

Bill is watching you closely Quirk, keep that in mind as you may not have much longer to live young sir.

  • 57 SEISMIC on Feb 28, 2008 at 12:38 pm

I merely suggest using “from the writers of” or “from the stars of”. I am not highly offended. That was just a stupid overreacting teenager moment and it was just plain dumb. I’m sorry.

Please know that I think Rifftrax is (are?) hilarious.

The boll weevil infestation has, however, been credited with bringing about economic diversification in the southern US, including the expansion of peanut cropping. The citizens of Enterprise, Alabama erected the Boll Weevil Monument in 1919, perceiving that their economy had been overly dependent on cotton, and that mixed farming and manufacturing were better alternatives.”
