Screenwriting Q & A information and preview.

March 2nd, 2008 by Bill Corbett · 25 Comments

I’d like to have the screenwriting Q & A / chat / hootenanny this upcoming Wednesday, March 5, at 9:00 PM EST.

If you don’t know what I’m talking about — and believe me, it happens lot when I say or write anything — click HERE.

In happier days: Corbett working on the script for ACCORDING TO JIM: THE MOVIE.

I’ll work on whatever questions you post for about two hours, and then as time permits later pick up a few of the ones left unaddressed. That’s assuming there’s enough to answer — it’s possible I’m making an ASS out of U and ME, here. (Well, ME. But “assme” doesn’t work, at least in polite company.)

In the meantime, here’s a dramatic re-enactment of my last Hollywood meeting. It’s been altered thusly to protect the innocent. me, from lawsuits:

    1) Myself and the producer are now British, and have different names. I am also wearing a wig.

    2) The scene has been transported to a book publisher’s office in London. But don’t be fooled, it’s really the Fox Studios lot. OR… is it? (Yes, I just told you it was. Come on!)

    3) Everything makes a lot more sense than in most Hollywood story conferences. It had to be slightly believable, after all…

Outside of that, it’s an EXACT record of the meeting:

Huzzah to you, sir, on discovering the awesomeness that is Mitchell and Webb.

In a bizarre coincidence, I sent this exact video to my girlfriend to help her understand the meetings I’ve been having with the producer of a comedy show that I’ve been writing.

Glad to know I’m in good company.

Is it just me, or does that Barton Fink picture look like Egon Spengler from Ghost Busters?

Reply from Virginia Corbett on March 2, 2008:

    That’s exactly what I thought!

Reply from SEISMIC on March 3, 2008:

and he’s hot!! Sorry-I got a geek crush on Egon!

Reply from Megan B on March 10, 2008:

Actually, the guy who played Egon, actually co-wrote the script with Dan Akroyd for Ghostbusters and also wrote the script for another comedy of which I have totally forgotten the name. But I totally thought it was Egon myself.

Bill, thank you very much for offering to do this.

I am more interested however, in the oddly horrifying ad that has appeared on the blog
    Picture of
    ” Zac Effron”
    then “Who’s hotter?”
    picture of
    “Jonas Bros.”

Now I don’t know who either of these people are but do you know how that add could be better?
    I think you do know.

If it was for Bacon of course.

I’ll kick things off a little early. How do you write a screenplay? Just kidding of course. I am looking forward to this Q&A.

Bill! You looked so much like Barton Fink in your younger days… and the Jesus Quintana for that matter… and Bernie Bernbaum. Huh.

I hope I can get to this one. I want to see how to keep a possiblely great Ben Hur type of movie concept from becoming a Howard the Duck or Young Einstein.

Wow. Studio audiences are everywhere, aren’t they? Even producer’s offices.

    But what of Joey Pants?

    Or, alternatively:

    Where of Joey Pants?
    When of Joey Pants?
    How of Joey Pants?
    Why of Joey Pants?

ACCORDING TO JIM: THE MOVIE. I wonder if Jims charm and vulnerability will translate to the silver screen.

To add a little flavor from my profession, you need to have Henry have sex while dying with Sarah, who has fallen in love with a shark, a pebble, and a squid, all while keeping their Time-Sold up. Actually, they could all just sit on the floor of a subway and drool, just as long as their Time-Sold is up. We’re talking at least 95% people. Okay, now I’m off to have some more meetings about keeping our Time-Sold up that will be charged to Overhead (i.e. not Direct, i.e. not toward our Time-Sold).
