Short Shorts Shortz.

March 9th, 2008 by Bill Corbett · 30 Comments

1) The second short in our current double feature, PETALUMA CHICKEN, was made in 1932. So it’s the oldest film ever riffed on Rifftrax or the puppet show. I invite you, or the Keepers of All Knowledge, to correct me if I’m wrong.

2) At 3:42, it might be the shortest, too. Correct me if I’m wrong.

3) The famous person I’ve seen in real life who was the shortest compared to his public persona: Sylvester Stallone. He’s a wee fellow, really. At least vertically.

4) The famous person I’ve seen in real life who was the tallest compared to his short-seeming public persona: former NYC Mayor Ed Koch. Oddly, he’s a tall man with short man’s disease.

5) Martin Short actually is rather short.

6) Puzzlemaster Will Shortz, however, is a veritable giant, standing well over 8 feet tall. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Puzzlemaster Will Shortz (L) and Sylvester Stallone (R) finally meet face-to-face.

I’m short man with a tall personality. My personality’s name oddly enough is Alan Steel.

    Randy (Alan)

I’ve never achieved Puzzlemaster status but on our high school forensics team I was a Master Debater. Since I’ve been married for almost 22 years I’m still an old hand at it.

Does Will Shortz have a large mallet?

  • 4 MikeP on Mar 9, 2008 at 12:09 pm

    Who is the tallest Riffclown?

  • 5 Beautiful Houndstooth on Mar 9, 2008 at 12:21 pm

I’m average height. Janet Jackson, however, is a teen tiny woman!

  • 6 Bill Corbett on Mar 9, 2008 at 12:24 pm

In order of tallest (pretty sure this is accurate):

    1) Mike
    2) Kevin
    3) yours truly.

Luckily though, I’m the most balding. So I got that going for me.

Osama bin Ladin would fit in your pocket.

  • 8 Walter Woods on Mar 9, 2008 at 12:34 pm

Jack Bauer is like 4 feet tall!

  • 9 Sampo on Mar 9, 2008 at 12:36 pm

You are correct, sir. The oldest thing riffed on the puppet show was “Undersea Kingdom,” made in 1936.

The tallest guy in the world, Will Shortz, could easily just open his mouth and bite Sylvester Stallone’s head off, judging by that picture. I for one think that’s very awesome!

Also, in honor of tall man, Will Shortz:
5 Down: A big word for tiny. (9 letters)

Scientology zealot Tom Cruise is only 5′ 6″ , so I believe he qualifies as well.

The shorts in your recent short film short were too short. If you do further shorts shortly, please make them even less short. I have a short attention span, which shortens my enjoyment of shortening.

Chuck Norris is another wee little man

  • 15 Bill Corbett on Mar 9, 2008 at 12:55 pm

Thanks Chris. Thought so, but… I’ve been wrong before. (Yes. Shocking but true.)

  • 16 Yanni on Mar 9, 2008 at 3:26 pm

    minuscule?

  • 17 Courtney on Mar 9, 2008 at 4:02 pm

Bill, are you aware that baldness is a sign of high testosterone? Clearly, you’re the manliest of the riffers.

  • 18 amanda on Mar 9, 2008 at 4:25 pm

Ooh. So close. But that first u isn’t going to fit with the across clue!

  • 19 Indianadelae on Mar 9, 2008 at 4:42 pm

    miniature?

  • 20 MikeP on Mar 9, 2008 at 5:01 pm

I heard that eating turkey bacon makes you go bald. Bill, is there something you want to share with us? Hmmm?

  • 21 Mr. Slick on Mar 9, 2008 at 5:28 pm

How long until you guys start riffing comercials?

The beef slabs in Rocky were played by cats.

  • 24 amanda on Mar 9, 2008 at 6:35 pm

No, no, no! Yanni is closest, just misspelled. Though it’s plain to see why I’m not tall or Shortz, because miniature and itsy bitsy would also work. Merv Griffin also gets points for actually spelling down.

  • 25 GregMcduck on Mar 9, 2008 at 6:38 pm

Actually, I think the shortest thing you riffed was the 60 Minutes commercial during the Star Wars Holiday Special riff.

    But I’m being nitpicky.

  • 26 Onil on Mar 9, 2008 at 10:58 pm

    I’m 5′ 4 and 1/2 “. I like to round up to 5′ 5″. My doctor’s office likes to round down.

chuck may be wee but he kicks some serious ARSE!!!!!!!!

  • 28 gammer on Mar 10, 2008 at 7:38 am

PETALUMA CHICKEN, was made in 1932. So it’s the oldest film ever riffed on Rifftrax or the puppet show.

    Confirmed.
According to Daddy-O’s Drive-In of Dirt: “Technically, the oldest is the 1936 serial 406S-UNDERSEA KINGDOM.”
    http://www.mst3kinfo.com/daddyo/daddyo3.html

But that was then and now have a new “Oldest”.
I present you a trophy made of really old cheese – Arabian Kishk.
You see the old cheese is sort of a homonym because its old like the short and “cheesy” like the short…

I know I’m coming in late to the party with this comment, but I can’t tell you how much I’m loving the whole 99 cent shorts-on-demand service. It’s exactly like combining one of my favorite aspects of The Puppet Show with iTunes, one of my favorite artifacts of the digital age.

Thanks go to you, my fine riffing gentlemen, or Riffingmen, as should be your official titles.

Little one looks like a cross between Derek Jeter and Emmanuel Lewis.
