He’s no longer with us, but I would have loved to have Brother Theodore as a guest riffer. I was just introduced to him today, and found it kind of odd at first. But by the end of this monologue, I found myself wiping tears off my eyes with the cuff of my shirt. I’m still not sure why, I think the damn manic energy of the whole thing just got to me. When I got home, I wanted to share it with some friends, and thought you guys might appreciate it as well:

Wonder what he would have thought of Schnappi? Not much to put it mildly.

Yes, I loved him on Letterman and in The ‘Burbs. He had a certain manic magnetism that was infectious. The first time he came on Letterman, the audience didn’t know if they should be amused or frightened. The word tragicomic comes to mind.

I always found Brother Ted both creepy and unnervingly attractive. ( Which explains why I am always ending relationships with, “Well that explains his fascination with little shoes.”)
Thanks for bringing back fond memories.

Hey, he has a head-volcano. Watch out, Bea Arthur.
