Thanks for the many excellent websites you faithful blogistas nominated to be our second Blogroll Guest of the Month (…or a unit of time roughly equivalent, given my always-tenuous relationship to the calendar).
Commentor Meredith’s nomination wins the much-coveted spot:
PALEO-FUTURE: “A Look Into the Future That Never Was.”
And she explains the site well…

http://www.paleofuture.com/ is good for fans of sci-fi. It’s a blog that collects articles, pictures and such of what people in the past (anything from the mid-90’s to the 19th century), thought the future would be like. As it turns out, they were (almost always) wrong. But entertainingly so.
Here’s a 1956 prediction for the House of the Future!!
(To see a much larger version, go here and click on the same picture.)
Some questions:
-
1) Being that I am in the future, where is my personal helicopter?
2) What in blue blazes is Grandpa wearing? (on the far left) That some kind of skort?
3) “Giant-size Fruit?” I don’t know what kind of sick future this drawing proposes, but mister, I call that thing a cat.
Many thanks to Meredith, and everyone else who suggested sites. In the next few days I’ll do a roundup of some other fun links nominated.
I leave you with this “Future War Tank” from 1939, courtesy of our new blogroll guest.
(…And oh yeah, future, when do I get my gigantic, all-powerful personal tank?
Pfffft. The future totally ripped me off.)

Great site!
I’m filled with nostalgia for 1980’s EPCOT. Particularly the old “Horizons” ride. Sure, it was wrong about pretty much everything, but it had hovercars, people with pet seals, and Totally Awesome synth music.

You can pretty much have all that stuff easily with today’s technology, if you’ve got the money to blow on it.
Including the pants-less woman sitting on the counter.

She does indeed look pantless in the smaller version, and I thought it was a pretty audacious prediction that young women would simply go bottomless in public.
But clicking the bigger picture, you can see that she’s wearing some kind of tan-colored capri pants. Of the FUTURE!
Disappointing? Yes.

Lies!! That’s just a tan line.

Forget the home of the future. Where’s my woman of the future? I’ll buy any car for her.

I think that picture predicted Internet porn. The pantless lady on the counter looks like she’s doing a “webcam show” for the blonde goofball in the screen.

33 channels? It must be “THE FUTURE!” Oh…wait, I think that’s just channel 3, and the TV has really bad “ghosting”.

I think “Space 1999″ sums up the futility in predicting the future of mankind, as do the 2001 series and just about every stab at presaging where the arrow of human events shall land.

I really do not think anyone has predicted the future correctly.
