Well, it’s Friday, which means it’s time for another Battle of the Kyries, the liturgical “Lord have Mercy”. In this corner, Wolfgang Mozart and the Kyrie from his magisterial, almost miraculous Mass in C-minor:
And in this corner, the band Jonathon William Everingtonham Mister (you can just call them “Mr. Mister”) with their mid-80’s take on the ancient benediction.
Please vote only once. The winner (either the Misters or Mozart’s estate) will receive a phone call at the end of voting today informing them of their win and their prize of one (1) free RiffTrax.

This is tough. I mean, were it not for Mr. Mister, I would not to this day be able to take these broken wings and learn to fly again, learn to live so free.
Can I just write in a vote for La Pequena?

I realized that some might not know of the glory/terror (mostly terror) that is LaPequena.

Yeah, so the first time I posted that, it didn’t show up. I waited and did it again. Now I have regrets.

No one ever likes to talk about it but the first thing that bird did after learning to fly again? It flew right into a 747 jet engine.

I clicked on that link. I have regrets. Macabre.

Hmm. I’ll have to instead go with Kyrie, the love interest of the nondescript hero of the Devil May Cry 4 video game.
Although I was making Mr. Mister jokes everytime the pretty boy hero made reference to her…

I vote for Knightley, or Sedgwick.
Or maybe Kurosawa.

My vote goes to Mozart. His Mass fills me with a desire to be lifted up to another world now long passed, a world where beauty is beyond reckoning and there is naught but our own will between us and perfect happiness. Mr. Mister fills me with a desire to lay in a hammock and eat corn chips, which is medically indistinguishable from my usual state.
For bringing the world such works of perfect beauty, I think the modern Mozarts have earned their prize of two hours worth of Carl Orff jokes.

Hmm tough choice. I think I’d have to go with the eighties pretty hair boys here. If the singers don’t resemble Michael Landon then how the hell can they be angels?

Only Florida voters have this much trouble voting. I’m going for the Mr. Mister version.
Ps. I’m from Florida myself.

My vote of course goes to the Misters of Mr, due to their attaining “having a song on the Band of the Hand soundtrack status” in ‘86.
PS- This was sooo not a fair fight.

I will have to go with the Mozart myself. I just can not vote for 80’s music because of a bad situation I had with that music. I just do not want to talk about it.

It’s so reassuring that there are other people out there regularly searching Youtube for classical music . . .
Pfft, this vote is easy. I refuse to encourage any band named Mr. Mister. Besides, Mozart’s hair was just even weirder than theirs.

I vote for the second Mister only. That first Mister is a total douche.

Tough call, but I have to go with Mozart here.
Next week: Sinéad O’Connor’s Kyrie

I’m gonna have to go out on a limb here and vote for Mr. Mister. Flame away but I actually quite liked that song back in the day. And, bein’ a heathen, I’d never have heard the phrase any other way.

The conductor’s filthy biker pony tail beats the hell out of mullet land over there, so its Mozart for me. The drummer from Mr Mister almost pulled it back for a moment but then I had a vision of him being set upon by 60 rabid choir boys who proceeded to tear the living flesh from his bones. Despite the fact that he could now drum using his own arm bones (awesome), that put him out of the running and tipped things back into Mozart’s favour.

Mike & the gang,
I just returned from the London Sci-Fi MST3K All-Nighter:
http://www.sci-fi-london.com/festival/2008/programme/all-nighter/mst3k.php
First, I admit I am weak and left after the second movie: “Santa Claus Conquers the Martians”. I just couldn’t take anything more after “Hooray for Santy (spelled S-A-N-T-A) Claus!”.
But I loved Rifftraxed Battlefield Earth so much that I’ve immediately come here and ordered 8 tracks. We’ll be subjecting our friends to a special version of Transformers this week.
Thanks so much for what you are doing here. Genius!

I’ll go with Mr. Mister. Great as Mozart was, he didn’t have the cool factor of having a drummer who went on to play with King Crimson.
