Anybody who has tried the gourmet “Mo’s Bacon Bar” has undoubtedly walked away disappointed. The packaging depicts a big beautiful full strip of bacon, but the actual bacon content in the bar is tiny little baco bits, that more than anything, add a salty flavor to your bite of chocolate. It’s a testament to its mediocrity that after I shelled out eight bucks for one, it has sat in my freezer with only two squares of it consumed. Fortunately, someone else has taken it upon them to rectify the “more chocolate than bacon” problem.
The Slog blog uncovers this gem, which turns “you got bacon in my chocolate” around into the far more appealing, “you got chocolate on my bacon. It’s available at a Santa Cruz candy store called Marini’s. There really isn’t much else I can say.
Instructions for making your own, are of course now available.

I won’t be impressed until they create the choco-Baconator. I want six strips of chocolate covered bacon on two thick patties before 5:00 today.

I’ve been to Marini’s! I can’t believe I missed these on past trips, but NO MORE. I’ll be going to the wharf on Mother’s Day (my mom loves the clam chowder bread bowls and Giant Dipper), so I’ll be sure to sample these almost-certain-delicacies.
I have had bacon ice cream before, and I can definitely vouch for that… existing.

Just imagine of how many ways they can process bacon. The mind boggles.

Insert obligatory “two great tastes, together at last!” jingle.

I’ll pay cash money to the first person who comes across chicken-fried chocolate-covered bacon in the wild.

This is very important: is the bacon chewy or crispy? It looks kind of crispy. I can’t abide overly crispy bacon, even when chocolate-covered.

Has the bacon-maple donut already been mentioned here? If not, I feel like it should be: http://voodoodoughnut.com/menu.html (third down on the left). Interestingly, it appears that this fine shop also offers weddings and Swahili lessons.
