Stinky The Hutt round-up

August 15th, 2008 by Conor Lastowka · 74 Comments

Jabba the Hutt’s kidnapped son “Stinky” is now officially my favorite character in the entire Star Wars universe.  Here is a round up of some various info about him:
From Harry Knowles Aint it Cool review:
Then they introduced Baby Jabba aka Rotta the Huttlet aka Stinky. At the point of this character’s introduction – it officially [...]

Which of these Star Wars Handmaidens is not like the others?

August 14th, 2008 by Conor Lastowka · 24 Comments

With the world abuzz about the direct to video Star Wars movie coming out this weekend, I thought it appropriate to pay a visit to wookiepedia and research minutae about Star Wars.  It turns out that all of the queens handmaidens have names, even though they don’t matter and you don’t care.  Here is the [...]

August 13th, 2008 by Bill Corbett · 51 Comments

…or just masterbNEVERMIND.
(Ahem.) I am pleased and also terrified to announce that myself, Kevin Murphy, and Mike Nelson have now formed a rock-n-roll supergroup along with Ted Nugent.* Introducing the RiffTones:

The RiffTones! I guess!

As you can see from the picture, the excitement of this new endeavor has driven me [...]

The links to our mystery Schnappi friend’s video open up whole galaxies of entertainment that you might hitherto have missed. Here’s a favorite:

Schnappi in English on the Ukelele

August 12th, 2008 by Conor Lastowka · 11 Comments

My friend Richard is spending several months traveling over in Europe, and has been spending the past few weeks visiting relatives in Germany.  Needless to say, his young cousins were amazed with his shocking familiarity with Schnappi, and even more amazed that he had friends at home who were asking him to bring back any [...]

Wild Boar Bacon!

August 12th, 2008 by Conor Lastowka · 16 Comments

A new butcher shop has opened in La Jolla and it carries Wild Boar Bacon!  Homegrown Meats is the new go to place for grass fed beef raised near San Diego but it’s the Wild Boar Bacon that is flying off the shelves, selling three times more than the regular bacon, according to the butcher.  [...]

The wee’uns.

August 12th, 2008 by Bill Corbett · 29 Comments

Some of you have been asking for newer pictures of my two kids.

Here they are at the pool last week. Ahhh, those carefree days of summer!
(Only noticed afterwards that my daughter was training a falcon, and that my son was dressed like a daughter.)

Money for nothing, Sexman for free

August 11th, 2008 by Conor Lastowka · 27 Comments

It’s been six months since I made the business deal of a lifetime, snatching up the domain name pruane2forever.com to document the ongoing genius of everyone’s favorite vulgar Canadian pre-teen.  My motives were based on more than just admiration for the man though.  I had a google adsense account with $82 in it from my [...]

I promise I’ll get to them. Eventually.

August 11th, 2008 by Bill Corbett · 20 Comments

To my lovely, well-meaning friends who keep insisting that I must check out THE WIRE, and/ or BATTLESTAR GALLACTICA…
You have excellent taste, every man jack of you, so I have no doubt they’re fantastic shows. But since I already spend too much time every day sitting on my heinie in front of a [...]

At least send us a casserole, Martha.

August 11th, 2008 by Bill Corbett · 39 Comments

From today’s NY Times:
For Fine Living, a fast-growing but small channel available in about 50 million homes, the endeavor comes with a built-in punch line that doubles as an insurance policy. The co-hosts of “Whatever, Martha!” are Ms. Stewart’s daughter, Alexis Stewart, and Jennifer Koppelman Hutt, who is the daughter of the chairman of Martha [...]

Heidegger writes into Parade Magazine

August 10th, 2008 by Mike Nelson · 29 Comments

My local San Diego version of Parade Magazine for the most part focuses on the vital questions surrounding Anne Hathaway’s choice of lip gloss. So I was surprised to dig into it this week and discover this hard hitting question:
It seems like Miley Cyrus has won fame and fortune only because she’s cute. Do you [...]

A Man… Called… DUMBLEDORE!

August 8th, 2008 by Mike Nelson · 18 Comments

A confession: from a very young age, I have been fascinated by drunken British actors. I have read no less than three biographies of Richard Burton. I have seen “The Dresser” more than twenty times. I own Peter O’Toole’s autobiography in hardcover (Loitering With Intent: The Child). And more than anything, I have striven in [...]

I, Tube: UNDERDOG edition.

August 8th, 2008 by Bill Corbett · 33 Comments

(NOTE: Previous editions of I, TUBE here and here.)
Way back in kindergarten, we were asked to draw pictures about Thanksgiving. (Coincidentally, this was right before the Thanksgiving holiday.)
Most kids drew turkeys, pies, and families at tables. Some poor girl even tried drawing stuffing, and wound up with a disappointing, brown-crayoned blob [...]
