Newman!

Our friends PAUL & STORM have finally snapped their tethers. They’re running free and wild — though hopefully clothed — doing what they’ve always wanted to do: create new Randy Newman songs with reckless abandon.

“Because it’s the season of giving, and in honor of one of our mostest favoritest songwriters, we’re pleased to be offering a brand new Randy Newman-inspired movie theme song every day until Christmas!

    An exercise in musical haiku.”

Listen to the songs consecutively to get the full magic and madness, comforted in knowing that you Randy Newman’s friend.

Below is a taste: Randy Newman’s lost theme for “300.” Dine in Hell, and enjoy!

I heard their Newmanized theme for Passion of the Christ a while back, and I still find myself singing, “Go, Jesus, go! You my friend.” every once in a while. Brilliant stuff.

Every downer movie needs a nifty tune: Tom Lehrer and the snappy theme from Oedipus Rex -

Mr. Newman’s music always puts me to sleep, I don’t know why.

(After the disasterous events of Lord of the Flies, Piggy manages to wash-up on the Californian shore. The blouder that supposedly smashed him had actually caused him to have serious amnesia. He gets up and begins to walk aimlessly throughout Los Angelos looking for some semblence of memory. He manages to make it to a piano store where a man named Ivring Newman was playing the piano, and curiously walks in)

Ivring: Well, hello there! Can I help you with something?

Piggy: I….don’t know….do you know what I need?

Ivring: Well I can’t help you if you can’t help yourself. What’s your name son?

(Amnesia cripples Piggy’s mind, until he manages to glance at a promotional bilboard for Randy “Duke” Cunningham’s campaign to become California’s next senator, and takes a good look at the name “Randy”)

    Piggy: My name is….Randy.

Ivring: Hmph, nice to meet you Randy. Are you lost? Were are your parents?

Piggy: I don’t know if I have any parents. The only thing I remember is washing up on the beach I came here…..I’m really scared…I can’t remember anything!

(Piggy begans to quietly sob and Ivring, with his big heart, decides to comfort the scared little boy)

Ivring: I’m sorry Randy, I don’t know how I can help you……say, would you like to learn how to play the piano? When I feel like crying I always think of my favorite movies and play a little jaunty toon about them. Why don’t you give it a try?

(Ivring scoots over on the bench and Piggy nervously walks over and sits down, and somehow, someway, something awoke inside him…..)

Oh, and to explain how Randy “Duke” Cunningham was running for senate in 1943, When Piggy looked out the piano store a brief rift in time was created that opened a portal to 2005. The portal showed the bilboard for an instant, but long enough for Piggy to look at it.
