Rifftrax Haiku Contest winner!

January 7th, 2009 by Bill Corbett · 10 Comments

Holy moly, the entries for our Rifftrax Haiku Contest were impressive. I laughed out loud many times. Bravo, all!

Though many entries could have won, this double-feature written by poster penumbra takes the day (especially the first one):

    “Well-oiled manburgers

    Soldiers of Laconia

    Body hair your foe”

    *****

    “Zak Snyder knows that

    Thermopylae is Latin

    For ’sweaty hotpants’.”

Well done, penumbra! If you’re not too busy being an African-American theater company in St. Paul, MN., please claim the free Riffrax of your choice by emailing ERIK AT RIFFTRAX DOT COM.

You can enjoy more well-oiled manburger fun here: 300 Rifftrax.

Congrats, penumbra, for finding poetic virtue in oily characters.

You must have really greased the judge’s wheels.

As long as it wasn’t palms that were greased…

    I hate that.

You can’t climb them that way.

Doesn’t “Well oiled manburgers” have six syllables?

Maybe I’m crazy. Still good though.

I don’t think so. Not unless you get all Elizabethan, and make “oiled” into two syllables.

Reply from smackymcgee on January 7, 2009:

Actually, here in the south it does: “oy-uhld.” I can’t think how to make it monosyllabic except to say it like “old.”

Congrats! I have a visceral, goosebump-generating reaction to “manburgers”. I may not sleep for a week.

Well met, though being a Southerner myself, I am still wondering how many syllables there are in “oiled.”

According to this article, “oil” can have as many as three syllables if you are from Michigan: http://www.alphadictionary.com/blog/?p=137

But why that many in Michigan and not Minnesota? Oh wait, Bill Corbett is originally from somewhere more New England-y, isn’t he? :D
