Thanks to Conor, I have indulged in a bona fide internet meme. My album cover above is the result of this exercise:
- 1) Your album cover is the third image on this page.
2) Your band name is the article title at the top of this page.
3) Your album title is the last 4 or 5 words from the last quote on this page.
Yes, a random generator actually gave me a Yoda quote. There’s some kind of sick karma at work here.
On the sunnier side — I do like my group’s name, which I’ve decided is a Burgess Meredith cover band.
***Added by Kevin Murphy***
I got a great cover for a current electro-trance or late-seventies funk band:

Await you, platinum records and Grammy awards do.

Good thing it isn’t the other way around. It’s a bit hard to Yoda-fy “Waaaaaaaaak, waaaaak, waaaaaak!”

Ah, this was the precious internet plague that took over once that ‘25 Things About Me’ thing finally died a slow, horrible death on Facebook. I like this plague much better. This was my photo:

It’s strange and comical, and I like it. It brings a serious case of WTF all up in this joint. Word.

So you guys do all the Burgess Meredith hits, like “There Was TIME Enough Now” and “Yes Chancellor, In God’s Name I WILL Let You Out!”
…I like The Twilight Zone.

I think this leaves out the twin peaks of Burgess’ ouevre: The Rocky years and the Batman years.
Who could forget classic tunes like:
“Keep hittin’em in the ribs ya see?”
and
“Down! Down! Stay Down!”
Remember the soul-stirring inspiration of
“You’re a bum, Rock. You’re a bum.”
The political anthem that changed a generation:
“But remember, no politics. Issues confuse people.”
and the romantic ballad
“Here comes the bride, all bagged and tied!”
Feel free to adapt this to any adverts or future Rhino Records liner notes, Bill.

I find it funny how slowly these things get around. I want to say it was a year ago that I caught it off a message board, then I got it again off my blog, and now the poor little meme is trying to infect facebook.
I almost feel bad for it when we finally get a good vaccine and erradiact the poor guy.
Oh yeah this was mine:
Gargas, Haute-Garonne

I enjoy h0w the quotes can be very familiar, mine was “The only place success comes before work is a dictionary”, but still rendered very strange and album title sounding when you chop half the quote off.

Reply from Nerf on March 9, 2009:
I agree. My album title was “Books Is Making Us Ignorant”. The original was from Voltaire, “The multitude of books is making us ignorant”. The album version has the perfect amount of sarcasm which is completely missing from the actual quote.
Reply from Rubicon on March 10, 2009:
(disambiguation) is a cracklin’ good end of a band name, and would also make for a fine album title.

My band is Anal Leakage and my quote was “Your movements go too far”. The photo was of ducks…I think it a sort of sublime commentary on duck gastrointestinal fortitude.
Interesting.

The album cover was something of a painting of Eminem by Renoir.
My band is is umbrage to Andre Talley called Talley.
And my album title is, “I Do Nothing Myself.”
And I decided my first track is the text from the first Google Ad on the right side of this page which is “White Lies”
The album dedication is to the third click on the 20th email following the first email about enlargement with the word ‘goat’ in it… “Kyle Maki of Santa Clarita, California.”

There is a facebook group dedicated to the game:
http://www.new.facebook.com/group.php?gid=130275380028
Len Peralta (illustrator extraordinaire and pal of the RiffTones) was one of the founding members!
I think you are missing some important elements to “The Rules” of the game. You should give a link to the Wikipedia page that inspired your band’s name. You should publish the full quote with author. And give a link to the original flickr page where you get your image. It’s good to give credit where credit is due.
Also, you get bonus points if you format the finished piece as a square, like an LP or CD cover.

Also, I took a longer title than instructed, but I don’t care, it’s a better title that way.

I’ve done this several times already (I’m trying to encapsulate the career arc thingy…think Eric Idle reading the history of a band, Toad, the Wet Sprocket, etc.) but for my morning shot of fake bandness got the following combination:
Cover: http://www.flickr.com/photos/24739867@N02/3342794552/
Band Name: Kittery (CDP), Maine
Album Title: It’s Against the Law
Given the quality of the average band name, album cover, and title these days, I’m beginning to suspect that all bands should be formed in this way,
