Pretender to the Throne

March 23rd, 2009 by Conor Lastowka · 41 Comments

We’ve seen many a pretender to Schnappi’s throne over the past few years. Papa Pinguin made perhaps the most convincing case. Others such as Schuffel the Rabbit and Kaptn Blaubar were not as well received. The latest potential heir, Mickaël The Turtle, has been called to my attention, and manages to get in a few decent shots at the Schnapster before suffering a third round knockout. Your thoughts?

He seems to be a little more promiscuous than our dear friend Schnappi. However, at least Shnappi had an original theme song, not “Ghostbusters” with him replacing his name for the title. LAME MICKAEL, LAME! And by the way stop being foreign and spell your dang name right.

You honestly think a lunatic French turtle stands a chance against a German-speaking Egyptian baby crocodile?! Pah! Schnappi forever!

  • 3 Ryan on Mar 23, 2009 at 4:48 pm

Wow. I didn’t know someone could film their own fever dream.

  • 4 Bill Corbett on Mar 23, 2009 at 4:48 pm

Mickaël The Turtle can go straight to Hell. Honestly, I wouldn’t piss on that little $@#^ing piece of &^$# if he was on FIRE.

    …Too strong?

  • 5 Conor Lastowka on Mar 23, 2009 at 5:26 pm

Just to make sure I have this straight, the jist of what you’re saying is, “I DON’T like turtles”?

  • 6 Bill Corbett on Mar 23, 2009 at 5:39 pm

Yes. And yet, LOVE zombies. I know it’s a bizarre contradiction, but there you go.

  • 7 MonkeyCheezPants on Mar 23, 2009 at 6:45 pm

I see the Crazy Frog people have a new job.

  • 8 Laura on Mar 23, 2009 at 7:13 pm

    But do you love toutels?

  • 9 Rob T Firefly on Mar 23, 2009 at 7:38 pm

This is a catchy remix of the song, but the music video just isn’t the same without completely random cameos by John Candy, Peter Falk, Chevy Chase, Laura Ingalls, et al.

I actually give this impostor negative points. First of all, unlike Schnappi, this guy only says his name. Secondly, the video has nothing to do with Ghostbusters except the melody. A carnival? A scary looking house with bats in it? Psshaw. He’s simply a CGI turtle in cel-animated croc hide.

  • 11 jenifersf on Mar 23, 2009 at 9:49 pm

My brain will never be the same.

    Thank you.

No, wait, it’s back to the same now.

Schnappi seems to fight nuthin’ but palookas these days, but there may be an anthropomorphic Buster Douglas Reptile biding his time out there on youtube just waiting to shock the world for all I know.
The reason I’m here though; I stayed up to watch Morrissey on the Fallon show and found myself wondering, during the Von D segment, whether the tattoo of Elvis high fiving Abraham Lincoln belonged to Rifftrax’s own Conor Lastowka. The photo didn’t show a face, but, c’mon, is any more proof even necessary?

No amount of abuse of drugs or alcohol justifies the creation or adoration of what I have just witnessed. Maybe constant inhalations of industrial solvent by international mafioso/club owners. So yeah, sorta with Bill on this.

Wasn’t toutles that crazy old codger who lost his marbles in the film “Hook”?

  • 15 euphoriafish on Mar 24, 2009 at 1:25 am

Not as cool as Schnappi, but 8 times more disturbing, is Bebe Lilli.

What are the rules in this “Schnappi challengers” game again?

  • 16 euphoriafish on Mar 24, 2009 at 1:31 am

    Exhibit B:

  • 17 skullhappy on Mar 24, 2009 at 4:34 am

Yet another reason to hate the French.

  • 18 Bill Corbett on Mar 24, 2009 at 6:15 am

P.S. Conor, when the hell are you going to announce a winner in the Street Sharks Fan Fiction Contest?

  • 19 Wesley Stamper on Mar 24, 2009 at 7:22 am

Just as Holmes was able to deduce Violet Smith’s profession as a music teacher by the spatulate ends of her fingers and spiritual mien, I am able to deduce Bébé Lilly’s parents are none other than Christina Ricci and Trumpy by the protruding forehead and oversized glassy eyes.
The break-dancing elf doll in the second video was the real star of the show. I hope he gets his own spinoff series of youtube videos.

Big (the farting Belgian pig) & Betsy beat ALL OTHER cute cartoon animals with catchy Eurobeat themesongs:

  • 21 Col_Shaggy on Mar 24, 2009 at 7:44 am

Did I just drop some acid or have I just lost my mind?
Oh, no, found it just rolled under the refrigirator. A little duck taped over my ears and now I can remember never to watch this video again!

  • 22 Wesley Stamper on Mar 24, 2009 at 8:06 am

I’ve rarely seen such a willful misinterpretation of the term “Pig and Whistle”.

  • 23 Henry Slinkman on Mar 24, 2009 at 9:28 am

That’s it. I’m making a song sampling the theme to “The Greatest American Hero”, featuring a llama named Stroodle. I’ll make millions overseas.

That turtle seemed a tad bit spastic to me…I think he had just a tad too much caffeine in his system…with a touch of acid for taste.

  • 26 BEMaven on Mar 24, 2009 at 1:57 pm

    I still prefer Erin Esurance.

She lets others do the singing.

  • 27 Ann Peek on Mar 24, 2009 at 2:12 pm

Well, there’s something I thought I’d never see: Turtles on crack.

  • 28 Earl Fando on Mar 24, 2009 at 7:21 pm

And the sad part is, they carry their own crackhouses on their backs.

  • 29 Margoo on Mar 24, 2009 at 10:30 pm

Why would you tape a little duck over your ears?

Wait, I figured it out – the quacking drowns out the turtle.

Ich fühle mich krank, wenn ich diese Schildkröte sehe.

    Trennung! Trennung!

  • 31 Deldobuss on Mar 25, 2009 at 7:59 am

The umlaut is pretentious, the song is a straight rip off, and the video is trying to be Crazy Frog.

    I like it!

  • 32 Deldobuss on Mar 25, 2009 at 7:59 am

But Schnappi still wins over this guy hands down.

  • 33 rebisaz on Mar 25, 2009 at 11:47 am

Dammit, it’s taken me since the 80s to get that stupid tune out of my head! Now it’s back.

  • 34 Mike Finley on Mar 25, 2009 at 12:35 pm

    That’ll learn ya!!
Trying to get “Ghostbusters” OUT of your head indeed…

  • 35 unsupervised on Mar 25, 2009 at 6:02 pm

Did the works of Harold Faltermeyer, Ray Parker Jr, or anyone with access to a synthesizer in the 80s enter the public domain in Europe recently?
